The Pediatrics Section at Imam Abdurrahman bin Faisal Hospital in Dammam has held World Prematurity Day Conference. The conference was attended by a large number of specialists, consultants and technicians.
Dr. Ahmad Al Arfaj, the Regional Executive Director of the Ministry of National Guard -Health Affairs in the Eastern Region said that the conference was held for the second time to educate people about taking care of premature babies before and after birth. He added: "The conference discussed several aspects, the most important of which is maternal care in terms of medical follow-up and healthy nutrition, in addition to the latest findings of modern medicine through care for premature babies." During the conference, a case of a premature child was presented to show the stages he went through of medical care and breastfeeding."
In the past year, the Department of Intensive Care and Midwifery Care has received 340 child, 30% of whom were premature babies and they received treatment. The celebration included many recreational programs and awareness activities to educate families and explain their role in maintaining the health of the child and avoiding premature births.
The idea of celebrating the World Prematurity Day were arose in 2008 when EFCNI organization initiated the first meeting for premature children families On November 17 in Rome. In this meeting, the 17th of November was marked to celebrate premature children every year.
