Prince Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Hospital in Al Madinah concluded last week the intensive course entitled “Basic Operative Surgical Skills” (BOSS) which organized by the Surgery department and Medical Education department in collaboration with Security Forces Hospital. BOSS course is a specialized medical course aims to provide health practitioners, who work in surgical operations with the basic techniques and necessary skills to perform surgical operations with the highest international standards, the course lasted for five days during these days the trainers performed practical drills under the supervision of a group of experts specialized in surgical operations in different fields and with attendance of the Chief of scientific committee of BOSS center Dr. Eyad Salloom.  

The course was under the supervision of Chief of Surgery department in PMBAH Dr. Osama Sharifi and was presented by sixteen specialized trainers and was attended by twenty seven trainees from different health facilities in Al Madinah Region.


The course started by a series of specialized lectures in basics of surgery included Dressing, Sterilization and Disinfection, the basics of using needles and sutures, Anesthesia and Surgery in addition to introduction in the surgical tools, introduction in Laparoscopic Surgery and Electrical Surgery.

A number of workshops followed the lectures where the trainers divided the trainees into groups to practice several surgical skills starting by gowning and gloving, cutting, knotting and suturing techniques, wound debridement, bowel and vascular anastomosis, skin flaps in addition to basic laparoscopy skills.

By the end of the course the trainees received certificates accredited with 26 CME Hours by the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCHS).​
