The Training and Development Department of the NGHA-R held a Public Speaking Skills training session; the second self-development training session in a week on Monday, October 12, 2009. Frank McGovern, the well-known instructor, conducted a session attended by a full audience.
McGovern lamented the loss of ideas when their creators feel shy to speak before the public. He decided on a solution for such loss and gave brief ideas on how to break the ice and speak before the public.
He stressed the point that the speaker should be thoroughly familiar with the topic; should know the culture of the audience as much as possible; should organize their speeches; and stick to given time limits.
McGovern warned against the ignorance of cultural differences, especially in body language, giving example of how Bulgarian people are different in saying “no” by nodding. Regarding media, he advised the participants to be aware as they might entrap public speakers using word games and conditional clauses.
The second part of the training session was greatly interactive as McGovern opened the floor for the participants to speak before the public and advised them on how to speak better before an audience.
Feeling safe and secure in Saudi Arabia, McGovern said he sensed security in the Kingdom, contrary to what some U.S. mass media claim as reality. He stated that he liked the Saudi hospitality and the audience’s great enthusiasm and interest.
At the end of the training, the Training and Development Department gave a trophy to McGovern in appreciation for his efforts.
