The Genetics Division – Pediatrics Department in King Abdullah Specialist Children’s Hospital (KASCH) and in collaboration with the Social Service Department conducted a Rare Diseases Awareness Day that included recreational games for the children, distribution of awareness pamphlets and one on one dialogues with genetics doctors and nutritionists to answer any related genetic diseases inquiries and questions raised by the parents.
Additionally, rare diseases exist in various medical fields, often under genetic diseases or disorders, and according to recent statistics, there are 5 to7 thousands rare disease that pose a risk to human life around the world. Some of these genetic conditions are Propionic Acidemia, Very long-chain acyl-CoA dehydrogenase deficiency (VLCAD), Herditary Epidermolysis Bullosa and many more. Therefore, such events are so vital in spreading awareness about these diseases, their management, treatment and prevention.
