Medical Team at KAH Successfully Helps A Patient with Rare DiseaseA medical team at King Abdulaziz Hospital, Ministry of National Guard -Health Affairs, Al-Ahsa has successfully helped a patient who is suffering from a very rare disease for many years. Dr. Ahmed Al Arfaj, Regional Executive Director of Ministry of National Guard - Health Affairs , Eastern Region has pointed out that: “ This achievement will be added to the previous achievements that we are proud of considering the difficulty of this rare case.”

Dr. Al Arfaj said: “ The patient infected with a disease called  (Wagner syndrome) which is internationally known to be a rare disease that infects 3 to 14 from a million people worldwide. The medical team has discovered the disease and set a treatment plan that helps the patient recover and live a normal life after suffering for many years of his life.”

Dr. Abdulsalam Al Athan, Head of the Treatment Team and the Assigned Director of Intensive Care said: “The patient was suffering from cough, chronic shortness of breath with blood in the sputum, deficiency in renal function, which developed rapidly to be respiratory and kidney failure. He was enterer to ICU.”

Dr. Al Athan added: “ After examination and tests we found out that he is infected with a rare disease that called (Wagner syndrome). (Wagner syndrome) is severe inflammation in the small blood vessels circulating all the body organs, including lungs and kidneys, which led to continuous bleeding inside the lungs, respiratory failure.”

Dr. Al Athan has clarified: “The patient has received the needed treatment, after that, signs of improvement began to emerge, respiratory failure completely recovered and the patient returned to his normal life."​
