Nine days after the successful separation of the Saudi conjoined twins, Reem and Rana, which was performed on Thursday, 13 September 2012 at King Abdulaziz Medical City, National Guard Health Affairs – Riyadh, Dr. Abdullah Al Rabeeah, Minister of Health and Head of the Surgical and Multidisciplinary Team stated that both twins are doing extremely well and their vital signs in a stable condition. The twins have been taken off the artificial respirator and are now breathing independently.
Dr. Al Rabeeah also stated that both twins have been fed their first bottle and within a few days the intravenous fluids will be removed. There are no signs of complications and that the twins have started to interact with their parents.
The parents are very happy with the progress of the twins and again expressed their gratitude to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz for his generosity and to the medical team for the separation and care.
Reem and Rana are the 30th conjoined twins separation to have taken place in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia which has been performed by the Surgical team, headed by Dr. Abdullah Al Rabeeah.
