King Abdulaziz Medical City in Riyadh received three female patients that were injured in the devastating fire in Al-Jahra – Kuwait. The three women were transferred via medical aircraft to KAMC under the directives of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz.

Dr. Bandar Al Knawy, the CEO of National Guard Health Affairs and the President of King Saud bin Abdulaziz University for Health Sciences, said that the patients were immediately moved to Princes Fahda bint Alasi bin Shraim Intensive Care and Burn Unit to undergo supervision from a multi-disciplinary surgical and medical team. Their treatment process involves three phases of treatment and rehabilitation.

Dr. Abdulrahman Ghazi, the Intensive Care and Burn Unit chief, said that the three cases are severe 3rd degree burns.

Two of the patients have burns over 70% of their bodies while the third  suffers from 50% to 60 %. The patients were put on artificial ventilators due to suffering from lung burns and inhalation of the fire toxic gases.

He also added that the 1st case is a 47 year old female suffering from 2nd and 3rd degree burns over 70% of her body, mostly on her face, back, upper and lower limbs and her abdomen. The 2nd case is a 24 year old female who suffers from the same burns and is on an artificial ventilator. The 3rd case is of a 42 year old who’s also on an artificial ventilator.

Dr. Abdulrahman confirmed that a fully equipped operating room is available 24/7 for such cases. Their treatment will involve 10 to 15 plastic surgeries to repair the damaged tissues with skin grafts.
