Dr. Bandar Al Knawy the CEO of National Guard Health Affairs and the President of King Saud bin Abdulaziz University for Health Sciences launched the 12th Residency Day in Marriott Hotel – Riyadh.
Dr. Al Knawy pointed out that the commonly celebrates Residency Day. On this day, resident doctors are being honored and new residents are being welcomed to stress the importance of medical education and training.
Professor Rashed Sulaiman Al Rashed the Vice President of Postgraduate Education, KSAU-HS stated that the number of specialty programs that are accredited by the Saudi Commission For Health Specialties has reached 21 program that accommodates 323 doctors during the current academic year 2009-2010.
It also supports 29 sub-specialty programs after passing the Saudi Board exam a program which 30 male and female doctors had joined. It was noted that 42 doctors have passed the exam in different medical specialties.
The National Guard Health Affairs is working on increasing the bed capacity at King Abdulaziz Medical City – Riyadh in the ER and the surgical wards for multiple disciplines to accommodate 200 beds with a ratio of 15% to the current rate. The NGHA also strives to develop mechanisms for patient services and resources to gain patient satisfaction.
In addition, the NGHA seeks to provide patient rooms and operating rooms that are fully equipped with the latest international equipment and technology and expands the outpatient clinics to improve the performance of primary health care level to improve the quality of care provided.
