A scientific study to measure inpatient and companion satisfaction with the performance of Saudi nurses revealed that 95% were satisfied. The study was conducted on 302 individuals, including 149 patients and 153 companions and measured their impressions on dealing with the Saudi nurse from several aspects.
The study prepared by Dr. Haya Al Fozan, Dean of College of Nursing in King Saud bin Abdulaziz University for Health Sciences (KSAU-HS) in Riyadh included: knowledge of nursing fundamentals, providing information, clinical skills, patient care, communication skills, decision-making ability, involving the family in patient’s care and following the nurse code of conduct.
The study which was published in the American Journal of Natural Sciences Research last December showed that 80% patients expressed their satisfaction in how knowledgeable the Saudi nurse is of her profession, 89.4% satisfaction in her clinical skills, 89% with patient while 95.4% were pleased with her communication skills. 90% were satisfied with her decision-making ability, and 93.4% expressed their satisfaction with the level of involving families in the care of the patient, and lastly 92% confirmed their satisfaction with the professional code of conduct among Saudi nurses.
The research study - which was funded by King Abdullah International Medical Research Center (KAIMRC) - is considered the first of its kind in the Kingdom. It was carried out in King Abdulaziz Medical City in Riyadh, King Abdulaziz Medical City in Jeddah, King Abdulaziz Hospital in Al-Ahsa, and Imam Abdulrahman bin Faisal Hospital in Dammam.
