48 hours after the successful separation of the Iraqi conjoined twins, Ruqayah and Zainab, performed on Friday, 16 July 2010, at the King Abdulaziz Medical City, National Guard Health Affairs – Riyadh, the Head of the Multidisciplinary Team, Dr. Abdullah Al Rabeeah, stated that the twins are in a stable condition with no sign of infection and remain on the artificial respirator. Both twins have opened their eyes and will gradually be weaned off the ventilator.Twin Zainab, as expected has increased brain fluid which requires drainage by the neurosurgeons.
The twins are currently in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit and are expected to remain there for another 7 – 10 days.
The parents of the twins are extremely appreciative and thankful to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, as well as to the Medical Team for the outcome of the separation.
