Under the auspices of His Royal Highness, Prince Miteb bin Abdullah bin Abdulaziz, Minister of National Guard, the 6th Patient Safety Forum will kick off on Tuesday, the 19th of April 2016 and will last for 3 days in KSAU-HS Convention Center - Riyadh. The event is organized by the Ministry of National Guard – Health Affairs in collaboration with the Deanship of Postgraduate Education – KSAU-HS and the participation of national and international senior health leaders; doctors, health workers and academics.
The conference on its third day will host 11 training workshop lead by an elite national and international speakers specializing in quality and patient safety, and will cover a number of vital topics such as: improving home healthcare, clinical incident management, creating education and competency program for healthcare workers, preparing specialized respiratory disease healthcare facilities, the importance of medication safety and achieving a simulated patient safety program.
Moreover, H.E. Chief Executive Officer of Ministry of National Guard - Health Affairs, President of King Saud bin Abdulaziz University for Health Sciences, Dr. Bandar Al Knawy, pointed out that this forum will be held for the 6th consecutive year as a part of the scientific conferences series aiming to develop safety and health care quality, educating all personnel , as well as adhering to patient safety international standards in order to allocate an appropriate environment for the safety of patients.
Dr. Bandar Al Knawy, also added that this scientific forum features the participation of national and international organizations such as the World Health Organization (WHO) and the most prestigious international universities and hospitals represented by local and international speakers from the United States of America, Canada, the UK, Denmark, and Egypt.
In addition, he also indicated that some of the forum’s objectives is to connect leaders, healthcare professionals and academic staff to create and sustain a culture for patient safety, engage physicians and healthcare professionals to create a safe environment for care, share and disseminate best practices in patient safety, highlight challenges and gaps to implement national safety initiatives, initiate collaborative projects, and last but not least create public awareness on patient safety.
Furthermore, the participating speakers will cover some vital topics such healthcare crisis as a transforming force and incidents that might endanger the patient safety in the operating rooms, wards and the emergency departments. At the same time, the possibility of improving health sciences that will lead to useful scientific tips in this aspect, will be discussed, with the emphasis on the importance of analyzing the required time to improve the performance of every individual in the health facility along with presenting quality improvement projects in every hospital. Besides, highlighting the importance of the safety of children undergoing leukemia and chemotherapy, in addition to importance of the nursing safety training role.
The 6th Patient Safety Forum targets healthcare and legal professionals and leaders with an active interest in patient safety, quality, organizational development and health system improvement, in addition to senior government representatives, quality leaders, professional association and licensing body representatives, healthcare organization CEOs and senior staff and physicians and healthcare professionals from all disciplines. It’s noteworthy that that forum will be accredited by the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCHS).
