On behalf of the CEO of the NGHA and the president of King Saud bin Abdulaziz University for Health Sciences Dr. Bandar Al Knawy, the Chief Operating Officer Mr. Abduallah Al-Ammari opened yesterday (the 7th of April 2009) the first Social Responsibility in the Health Sector symposium. The symposium was organized by the Social Research Department and Charity Services in cooperation with the Higher Education Training Center and the Academic Affairs in Dr. Sameer Bin Huraib Auditorium in King Abdulaziz Medical City- Riyadh. The symposium was opened by a narration from Holy Quran followed by a speech given by Ms. Samiha Al Haydar, the Advisor of Social Research and Charity Services at the NGHA about the concept of social responsibility and its importance. She also noticed that despite the term being a new one, the practice of social responsibility had begun in this field a long time ago.
Ms. Samiha also urged all officials from the private sectors and business men to take responsibility of their community and to contribute in charity work whether it was by participating in social development programs, volunteering or charitable health programs. Moreover, they could participate in training and employment programs among other things.
After that, Chief Operating Officer Mr. Abduallah Al-Ammari announced the start of the activities. In his opening speech he commented that the NGHA aims to contribute in the development of the community responsibility culture on every level. He also stated that this symposium is focusing on the health sector’s humanitarian aspects.
At the end of his speech, Mr. Abduallah Al-Ammari said: “The presence of the NGHA in humanitarian and charity fields is considered one of the pillars of contributing to the community and in social services programs.
Mr. Abduallah Al-Ammari presented certificates of appreciation and thanks to the guests and sponsors who represent a number of government and private sectors. Many representatives from the Consultative Council (Majlis Alshura), King Saud University, Imam Mohammad Bin Saud Islamic University, Human Rights Commission, Saudi Economic Association, Abu Dhabi Emiratization Council (ADEC), the International Islamic Jurisprudence Academy and more.
The scientific sessions started after the opening ceremony. The first session was under the title “Social Responsibility from an Islamic, Legal and Media Perspective”. Dr. Mohammad Al-Njeemi, Mr. Tala’t Hafedh, Mr. Saud Alshammari, Sheikh Abduallah Almgerin and Dr. Fahad Al-Tayash participated in this session.
The second session was under the title “Social Responsibility from a Social and Historical Perspective”. Dr. Ahmed Al Qadi, Dr. Al-Nasser Atowaim, Dr.Abduallah Al-Youssef, Dr. Ali Al Fageeh and Talat Zaki Hafiz participated in this session. Towards the end of the symposium, a number of certificates for attendance were given to all the registered names as the symposium will be accredited for nine hours by the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties.
The symposium aims to raise awareness about the concept of social responsibly in the target audience, such as: executive directors, managers in departments, institutions and corporations both governmental and private and anyone who is eager to apply these social responsibly concepts within their institutions. Moreover, they aim to clarify the social responsibly concept from religious, social, legal and administrative perspectives through the participation of an elite group of professors and experts.
The symposium also aims to utilize a number of personal and institutional social responsibility experiences that support scientific tributaries in applications through the practical participation of some of those who founded this concept. Furthermore, it aims to develop a kind of integration between the governmental sector represented by NGHA and the private sector represented by companies, corporations and commercial banks in applying the social responsibly concepts.
