The Stroke Committee at King Abdulaziz Hospital - Al Ahsa, held an exhibition to raise awareness about strokes, during which, many participants and visitors underwent an intensive and thorough examination tests to determine the likelihood of contracting this disease, which has killed many or disabled physical activities.
Dr. Ahmad Al Arfaj, the Regional Executive Director of the Ministry of National Guard -Health Affairs in the Eastern Region said that this activity comes from our duty to educate patients and even staff about the serious impact of strokes, through a lot of precautions that everyone must follow. The exhibition, which has seen significant numbers of visitors with the participation of many medical departments, achieved good results, and put participants on the right path to find out the causes of the disease and its prevention.
Head of the Organizing Committee, Dr. Hassab Arasol Ahmad noted that during the event, participants underwent some tests to measure stroke risk factors including blood tests, smoking, cholesterol levels, diabetes, lack of exercise, age, obesity in addition to family history.
The exhibition included several corners such as the pharmacy, where participants were briefed on the drugs used in relation to such cases. Other corners included rehabilitation and nutrition. Dr. Hassab Arasol Ahmad also added that any person showing stroke symptoms should immediately go the emergency department to be given the necessary treatment to reduce the effects of stroke.
In addition, Dr. Hassab Arasol Ahmad added that some of the stroke signs include speech difficulty, face dropping, sudden numbness or weakness on one side of the body, and through our screening sessions during the exhibit, we have found a number of stroke candidates were advised to visit the doctor’s office as soon as possible; and this reflects the importance of such activities and events that contribute to saving lives.
