Based on the directives of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, the medical and surgical team will perform the Sudanese conjoined twins (Rammah & Waddah) separation operation on Saturday, the 29th of October 2016 in King Abdullah Specialist Children's Hospital (KASCH) at King Abdul Aziz Medical City, Ministry of National Guard - Health Affairs -Riyadh.
Rammah & Waddah arrived in Riyadh a few weeks ago Sudan; the twins underwent intensive medical checkups and tests to set up a plan for the separation procedure. After the initial examination of the twins, Head of the Surgical and Multidisciplinary Team Dr. Al Rabeeah explained that the twins who weigh 18 kg, are joined at the abdomen and pelvis, and each twin has one lower limb in addition to sharing a deformed third limb.
The surgery is expected to last 15 hours through 9 phases with a success rate up to (70%). The participating multi-disciplinary medical team consists of 28 doctors from various medical specialties such as (Anesthesia, pediatric surgery, pediatrics urology, plastic surgery, and pediatric orthopedic surgery, nursing and support departments).
Additionally, the parents of the twins are extremely appreciative and truly thankful for the fatherly gesture and generosity of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz.
This is the 40th Case that has been separated by the Saudi Team.
It is worth mentioning that this marks the 42nd case of siamese twins separation by the a Saudi multidisciplinary who reviewed 97 cases from 19 countries since 1999.
