Represented by Ear, Nose & Throat (ENT) Section; Prince Mohammed Bin Abdulaziz Hospital of The National Guard’s Health Affairs conducted the Third Tracheostomy Care Workshop on Tuesday, the 19th of February 2020.
The training workshop aimed to train physicians, nurses and respiratory specialists to provide healthcare for tracheotomy patients. The training workshop consisted of two sections where the first section included lectures and educational presentations related to tracheostomy care.
The second section was a practical training on how to care for tracheal tube post-surgery, in addition to daily cleaning and periodic changing of the tube, and identifying its different types and how it is used for children and adults.
Additionally, Dr. Ahmed Kurdi, Section Head, ENT Section; emphasized on the importance
of having the medical staff properly trained and proficient in the correct practice regarding providing healthcare for tracheostomy patients in order to avoid medical complications that may result from a lack of experience in dealing with such cases.
Mr. Zaam Al Otaibi, Manager of Respiratory Services Department commented on the necessity of familiarizing health practitioners with the correct procedures for tracheal tube during emergency situations such as blocked or dislodged tube. Mr. Al Otaibi also stressed on the importance of educating patients and those accompanying them at home in this regard.
