Primary Health Care Services in the Ministry of National Guard – Health Affairs, Western Region and represented by Comprehensive Specialized Clinics organized the World Breastfeeding Week. The targeted audience were mothers, children, and pregnant women. The World Breastfeeding Week covered several vital topics such as the environment and climate change, nutrition, food security and poverty reduction, women productivity, and labor, survival, health, and welfare.
This event is annually held to raise the level of awareness of mothers on the importance of breastfeeding. In the 2016 World Breastfeeding Week, we learned how protection and support are both key elements for sustainable development.
It is important that hospitals and primary health care centers become child-friendly, as they have an effect of providing the mother with the support she needs to make her breastfeeding journey successfully, as well as to protect her and her baby from companies promoting breast milk substitutes.
