The Postgraduate Training Center in KAMC-RD and King Saud bin Abdulaziz University for Health Sciences launched the World Diabetes Day activities last Wednesday on the 23rd of December 2009 in Marriott Hotel –Riyadh.
Many consultants and department heads from King Abdulaziz Medical City, King Saud bin Abdulaziz University for Health Sciences and King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center participated in the events including several departments such as the Family Medicine Department and Evidence Based Medicine.
The activities addressed three areas: the impact of diabetes and updates in the prevention of type I diabetes, updates in the diagnosis and prevention of type II diabetes and updates in technologies, medications, care and education in diabetes.
Moreover, many topics were covered on the World Diabetes Day such as the impact of diabetes on the health system discussed by Dr. Saleh Al-Jasser from the Family Medicine Department as well as the advances in the prevention of type I diabetes given by Dr. Afaf Al-Sagheir, from King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center. The co-director of the Evidence Based Medicine Department Dr. Mazen Farwana talked about glycosylated hemoglobin versus mean blood glucose as a diagnosis for diabetes.
It is worth mentioning that the National Guard Health Affairs is seeking to continue to have such events in an annual basis to raise health awareness in the community and provide an opportunity for health workers to share experiences and keep with the medical developments.
