
The World Federation for Medical Education recognized the extraordinary achievements of The College of Medicine at the King Saud bin Abdulaziz University. The WFME representatives gave the College exceptional results after visiting COM in April. It received 94% in the basic standards and 83% in the quality development standards; also it received recognition for attaining all the other required criteria.
The visiting team of representatives included three of the top European advisers and experts in the medical field. The aim behind this field visit was to verify and ascertain how the College of Medicine meets the recognition standards and criteria which include: the vision, goals, curriculum, students, learning sources, evolution programs, faculty members, administration, and quality of education in COM.
The recognition of the College included:
•Self-assessment in light of the above mention basic standards and quality standards.
•Review of the self-assessment report by experts from the Federation Copenhagen, Denmark.
•A field visit to the College by a team of experts.
Professor Youssef Al Eissa, the Vice President of Educational Affairs and the Dean of College of Medicine, stated to Nubth Al Jamiah that the College had completed a detailed and comprehensive self-evaluating report prepared by the majority of the faculty members and students. Furthermore, the visiting representatives commended the overall performance of the College, assuring that it has met all the standards and mentioning that the College of Medicine demonstrated where it stands compared to its counterparts in other universities worldwide which had undergone the same evaluation.
They also expressed their admiration of its educational program, the approach which the College had adopted to solve problems and how it employs technology. It also applauded the teamwork and the spirit of cooperation between faculty members and students, commenting that it will set an example for other learning institutions locally, regionally and globally.
