
King Abdulaziz Hospital for the National Guard in Al Ahsa organized two days of various activities for the World Kidney Day. According to the Chief Executive Officer of the National Guard Health Affairs and the President of King Saud bin Abdulaziz University for Health Sciences Dr. Bandar Al Knawy, these activities aim to spread awareness about kidney disease after the recent rise had captured the attention of the medical world.
Dr. Al Kanawy pointed out that the activities started with a kidney disease awareness day for the public that discussed methods of prevention and treatment.
Furthermore, an exhibition was held in the Officer’s Club where a number of publications and models were presented. Also offered was a comprehensive demonstration of dialysis and examinations for blood pressure and blood sugar levels.
The NGHA regional executive manager in the Eastern province, Dr. Ahmad Abdulrahman Al-Arfaj said, “The second day had six lectures discussing kidney disease and the latest findings in the field. A large number of health professionals attended and had received 7 CME (Continued Medical Education) hours.”
Dr. Al-Arfaj stated that the NGHA is always eager to initiate such events in correlation with world events. He also mentioned that it strives to spread awareness as part of the role it plays in the field of community services.
The Eastern province Director of Academic Affairs Dr. Abdulmohsin Al-Zakari pointed out that the lectures were specialized and had provided accurate information about kidney diseases. The lectures covered many topics, such as: preventing and treating chronic kidney diseases presented by Dr. Albadri Abdelqadir, dialysis types by Dr. Waseem Ahmad, Kidney transplants by Dr. Abdelqayoum and the importance of treating high blood pressure by Dr. Omar Abakir.
In addition, the lectures discussed the new advances and findings in the modern world of medicine in relation to dialysis, such as: diagnostic methods and equipments, the basics of blood and protein dialysis and their complications, treating high blood pressure, kidney transplantation in the Kingdom and the importance of organ donations in saving lives.
