Lasted 10 hours with the participation of  more than 30 medical specialties​

The multidisciplinary medical and surgical team has successfully performed a 10-Hour Separation surgery for the Yemeni Twins Abdullah and Abdulaziz  in King Abdullah Specialist Children's Hospital at King Abdulaziz Medical City – Riyadh   on Friday, the 19th of February 2015. The team was headed by His Excellency, Dr. Abdullah Al Rabeeah, Advisor at the Royal Court, Supervisor General of King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre with the participation of more than 30 medical specialties.

The separation surgery was be performed through 8 Phases which started with anesthesia for two hours and a half, after that was the prepping phase. Followed by sterilization then the incision and opening phase, after which the fourth phase took place in which the bowel and liver were separated,  followed by the urological and gentile system separation which lasted for two hours. After that, the sixth phase started where the orthopedic surgical team separated the pelvic bones then the team was divided into two teams to proceed with the reconstruction stage which lasted for 3 hours.

Finally, the 8th and final stage was the dressing and coverage in which the plastic surgery team closes the wounds, followed by transferring the twins to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit until their treatment is complete.

Additionally, Dr. Abdullah Al Rabeeah and on behalf of the multidisciplinary medical and surgical team, extended their congratulations to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, the Crown Prince, the Deputy Crown Prince and His Royal Highness Prince Mitib bin Abdullah bin Abdulaziz, Minister of National Guard for the success of this operation.

For his part, the father of twins, Mr. Fathi Abdullah Hussein thanked Allah the Almighty for the successful operation and extended his gratitude to the multidisciplinary medical and surgical team for all their efforts.

Additionally, His Royal Highness Prince Mitib bin Abdullah bin Abdulaziz, Minister of National Guard congratulated the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud on the success of the twins separation.

Prince Mitib also pointed out the continuous support of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, to the health sector in the National Guard along with the support and care for the advancement of the health services levels in our country, most recently the inauguration of King Abdullah Specialist Children's Hospital last month.

Last but not least, Prince Mitib also praised the distinguished efforts of the multidisciplinary medical and surgical team, while appreciating the efforts of all MNGH-HA members wishing them more success towards carrying out their messages in serving the country and its people.

It is noteworthy to mention that this conjoined twins operation marks the 37th of its kind for the Siamese Twins program in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia which started in 1990 and covered cases from 18 countries.
