The department of Obstetrics and Gynecology is present to serve the NGHA community with patients'
centered vision and mission, carefully planned management and high quality health care providers.

The Obstetrics and Gynecology Department seeks excellence to improve quality of life for women through

Obstetrics and Gynecology Services
The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology provides state of the art service to all National Guard
population and their dependents with high standard of safety & quality Obstetrics and Gynecology
care.
In addition, we provide service to those patients who require highly specialized center and experts in
Obstetrics and Gynecology across the country for which we receive referrals from all over the country.
It is a referral center for high-risk patients particularly those with difficult surgical conditions,
high risk pregnancy, pregnancy with congenital anomalies and cases of infertility.
The department has four main divisions, these are General Obstetrics & Gynecology, Maternal-fetal
Medicine, Reproductive endocrinology, and in vitro fertilization (IVF) and Reconstructive female Pelvic
surgery & Urogynecology.
The department provides comprehensive, multidisciplinary medical and surgical care through group of
highly selected obstetrics and Gynecology experts, including 37 consultants.
Medical Education in Obstetrics and Gynecology
The department takes great pride in our comprehensive medical education program and is committed to
training the next generation of leaders in women's health.
The department currently runs three recognized Fellowship Training Programs approved by SCFHS (IVF, MFM
and Urogyn) and it is very active in conducting/participating in educational activities for residents,
students and midwives.
The residency Program run in the department is among the most highly recognized and well named training
programs in the country.

Department Capacity
The four divisions are served through the following capacities: 9 beds for Obstetric Emergency and 149
beds for admission: 127 beds for ward admissions and induction unit, 15 beds for Labor & Delivery
& Obstetric HDU (High Dependency unit) and 7 beds for assessment room.
The department has an average admission number of 11000 per year, making it one of the most active
departments in admission across King Abdulaziz Medical City-Riyadh (KAMC-R).
The average length of stay is 3.5 days and average number of deliveries is 8200 per year over the last 5
years. Surgical procedures have increased gradually over the last 5 years to reach about 2000 surgeries
per year.
For out-patient clinics, the department serves an average of 43000 patient visits per year and for
Obstetrics and Gynecology Ultrasound services, an average of 20000 procedures per year are performed.
Obstetrics and Gynecology Scope of Services
The department basically serves all National Guard population and their dependents all over the country.
- Scope of service includes management of obstetric cases, surgical and non-surgical gynecology cases,
Urogynecology cases and patients with reproductive endocrinology issues or infertility (More details
are available under each division information).
- Minimal invasive gynecological surgeries (operative laparoscopy and hysteroscopy) & Robotic
surgeries are performed in the department too.

Divisions
Female Pelvic & Reproductive Surgery
Reconstructive Female Pelvic Surgery & Urogynecology (RFPS-U) is an active division in the
Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. It was created in 2014 and since that date kept growing in
all aspects.
The division is in line with the whole mission and vision of the institute that provide cutting-edge
patient care and education. More than 400 interventions are carried out every year. Some of these
interventions are rare, difficult and require high standard of care. Some of these rare cases are
referred from all over the country.
The division is run by three qualified consultants urogynecologists. The division is very active in
educational activity. We are heavily involved in the teaching of medical students. We receive
residents from OBGYN and Urology departments doing rotations at our division as part of their
required training.
The Division is recognized for 3 years Fellowship Training Program by the SCFHS since 2020.
Department Capacity
The Division of RFPS-U is running 6 outpatient clinics per week where nearly 100 patients are seen
and managed. These patients are seen on referral base from all over National Guard hospitals. Some
other patients are accepted as a referral from other non-National Guard institutes due to rarity or
difficulty nature of the conditions.
The outpatient service includes dependent urodynamic unit. The division operates three theaters per
week where several surgeries like pelvic organ prolapse, urinary incontinence, fecal incontinence
are taking place.
The division also operates cases of severe Endometriosis, urogenital fistulae and congenital
anomalies of the genital tract both by laparotomy and minimal access routes. The division covers all
its duties independently including 24/7 on call service.
The division also covers consultations in regard to difficult general Obgyne cases as required. The
division takes a leading part in the HROST (High Risk Obstetrical Surgical Team) who manage high
risk cases including placenta accreta spectrum.
The division operates many educational activities at all levels including medical students, residents
and fellows.
Scope of Services
The division basically serves the National Guard population and their dependents all over the
country. Our scope of service includes medical and surgical management of patients with the
following:
- Pelvic organs prolapse
- Female urinary incontinence
- Female fecal incontinence
- Chronic pelvic pain and Endometriosis
- Surgical management of all female congenital anomalies of the genital system
- Emergency repair of some obstetric complications: lower urinary tract and genital system
- Minimally invasive gynecological interventions to a large variety of gynecological conditions

Reproductive Medicine Division
The Reproductive Medicine Unit was established in October 1995 to serve National Guard dependents
patients with infertility conditions. Over the first ten years the growth in patients' number and
services were dramatically increased due to the King's decree by offering infertility treatment to
all Saudi patients.
The Division serves National Guard population and their dependents in addition to referred patients
from all over the country who fit the acceptance criteria.
The service includes: Assessment and evaluation of infertility cases, treatment of female and male
infertility by assisted reproduction techniques: Intra Uterine Insemination (IUI), In Vitro
Fertilization (IVF), Intra Cytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI), Trans Sperm Aspiration (TESA), Frozen
Embryo Transfer (FET), sperm cryopreservation for oncology and severe male infertility, oocytes
freezing for oncology patients, operative laparoscopy and hysteroscopy.
The division provides support services like psychologist and nutritionist weekly to enhance patients'
satisfaction and healthy environment. Pre-genetic screening/diagnosis is already implemented for
cases with suspected genetic predispositions.
The Division is engaged actively in the educational activities for residents and fellows as we are
recognized for 3 years Fellowship Training Program by the SCFHS.
Reproductive Medicine Unit Capacity
The capacity of IVF Unit accommodates:
- Ovum Pick up and Embryo transfer average 400 – 800 cycles/year
- Number of Ultrasound average 4000/year
- Number of new patients visit average 600 patients/year
- Number of admissions average 6 – 12/year
- Number of surgeries average 150 – 200/year
Reproductive Medicine Unit Scope of Services
The Unit serves all types of infertility (primary and secondary), male factor, female factor, and
unexplained infertility. Recurrent pregnancy loss for fertility preservation, families with genetic
diseases for pre-genetic diagnosis, and all cases needing reproductive surgical interventions.

Division of General Obstetrics and Gynecology
General Obstetrics and Gynecology division supports the Institution and departmental mission and
vision by working on improving women's health and quality of life at every stage of life.
We focus on improving the quality of care and safety, advances in medical knowledge and
state-of-the-art technology, while preserving an environment of collaboration, integrity, humanity,
and respect among patients and colleagues.
The division provides various clinical services for low risk and high risk obstetric care; antenatal,
intrapartum and postnatal. The division also provides women with gynecological exam and assessment,
pre and post menopause care and assessment, family planning, adolescence gynecology, endometriosis
and others.
We also provide diagnosis and management of all gynecological diseases that need both medical and
surgical interventions. We have skilled physicians in both endoscopic and open gynecology
approaches.
The division provides care for complicated high risk obstetric and gynecological cases and manages
high risk national referred cases with competence and integrity through 24/7 in–house consultant
based coverage.
The general division dedicated experts in the field are participating actively in the residents,
interns, and students' educational activities on top of the rotating residents from all over the
kingdom.
Department Capacity
The division covers about 70% of total patient admissions and outpatient referrals to Obstetrics and
Gynecology department. We run 15 antenatal clinics and 16 gynecology clinics per week. An average of
700 patients are seen weekly.
The outpatient services has an office hysteroscopy unit for diagnostic and minor intervention
purposes. The division utilizes 10 operative theaters per week for both elective caesarian section
and gynecological cases with an average of 2000 surgeries done per year.
The division also covers consultations that are within the scope of general Obstetrics and Gynecology
practice.

Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine
Maternal-Fetal Medicine (MFM) refers to the specialized care of pregnant women and their fetuses. Our
MFM Specialists are experienced in a wide variety of complex maternal-fetal conditions to keep both
the mother and baby healthy and provide consultative services in the evaluation and management of
high-risk pregnant patients for National Guard population and from all over the Kingdom as a
well-recognized center for MFM services.
The division offers ultrasound service for obstetric & gynecologic evaluation in the outpatient
and inpatient setting (24 hours). We offer specialized expertise in ultrasound imaging and the most
current prenatal diagnostic procedures for advanced fetal assessment.
In 2016, the unit established the Clinical Fellowship in MFM Program under the umbrella of Saudi
Council, in coordination with Medical Education department. It is a three-year full time structured
and supervised postgraduate fellowship training and encompasses education in the basic sciences,
training in cognitive and technical skills, development of clinical knowledge, and acquisition of
sound intervention judgment.
Maternal-Fetal Medicine Capacity
The division of MFM is running ten (10) outpatient clinics per week where more than 200 patients are
seen and managed. These patients are seen on referral base from all over National Guard Hospitals.
Some other patients are accepted as a referral from other non-National Guard Institutes due to rarity
or difficulty nature of their conditions. These services are conducted through seven (7) outpatient
Fetal medicine clinics, three (3) medical disorders in pregnancy clinics and one preconception
genetic clinic.
The division conducts outpatient and inpatient ultrasound for obstetrics and gynecology cases through
six (6) outpatient ultrasound rooms and two (2) inpatient ultrasound rooms, where over 12000
ultrasounds are done per year.
The division performs perinatal diagnostic and intervention procedures where over 130 procedures are
done per year.
The division takes a leading part in the High Risk Obstetric Surgical Team (HROST) who manage high
risk cases including placenta accreta spectrum.
Maternal-Fetal Medicine Scope of Services

the country. Patients with the following conditions are seen and managed at our division as out- and
inpatient basis:
- Antenatal care for all pregnancies with fetal disorders
- Antenatal diagnostic and therapeutic procedures
- Antenatal care for patients with medical disorders in pregnancy
